GTA 6 could take up to 6 days to download if it weighs the rumored 676GB
The countdown to GTA 6 has already begun, but there's an issue that could spoil the party for millions of players before the game even kicks off: According to Tarreo, if rumors about the file's size are confirmed, many users would need more than 24 hours to download it, and those with slower connections could face a wait of up to six full days. A start that, of course, is not the one that anyone imagined for the most anticipated launch in video game history.
The data that generates this concern is part of a rumor that has been circulating for weeks in forums and networks: GTA 6 could weigh 676 GB. A stratospheric figure that, if confirmed, would make the game one of the heaviest titles ever published on console. To put it in perspective, with an average domestic connection of about 100 Mbps the download would already exceed 15 hours; with connections of 20 Mbps or less - still common in rural or in households with basic rates - the wait would easily skyrocket beyond six days. Rockstar Games has not confirmed anything about it, so we must insist: for now it is just a rumor, although widespread enough to take it seriously.
In case context was needed to understand the magnitude of what lies ahead: GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will take us back to Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida, with two main protagonists —Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval- at the forefront of a story that promises to redefine the genre. The expectation is simply historic: the second official trailer broke records for visualizations in a few hours, making it clear that the whole world has its eyes on Rockstar. A gigantic file size, in that sense, wouldn't be entirely surprising either given the level of detail and ambition the studio has promised.
The most prudent thing, at the moment, is not to panic but to take precautions. If the weight of the game is even remotely close to that figure, it is advisable to think about pre-downloading as soon as it is available, reviewing the free space on the SSD of the console and, if possible, assessing an Internet rate improvement before launch. Rockstar and the platforms will have a lot to say on how to manage this process. We will be following closely any official confirmation about the final size of the game.
